There is something special about preserving the flavors of the tropics and enjoying them long after the harvest season has passed. One of our favorite ways to do that is by making homemade passionfruit jam.
This recipe highlights the bold, tropical flavor of passionfruit with just a touch of Meyer lemon and vanilla. The result is a rich, fragrant jam that is delicious on toast, biscuits, pancakes, yogurt, ice cream, or even paired with cheese.
Why We Love Passionfruit
Passionfruit is known for its intense aroma and sweet-tart tropical flavor. While many people enjoy it fresh, making jam is a wonderful way to preserve the fruit and enjoy it throughout the year.
For this recipe, we use passionfruit pulp that has had most of the juice removed, creating a thick and flavorful base for the jam.
Homemade Passionfruit Jam Recipe
Ingredients
- 8 cups passionfruit pulp
- 7 cups granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped Meyer lemon pulp (seeds removed)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of butter
- Tiny pinch of salt
Instructions
- Wash and sterilize jars, lids, and bands.
- Add the passionfruit pulp, Meyer lemon pulp, butter, and salt to a large heavy-bottomed pot.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently.
- Add the sugar and stir until completely dissolved.
- Bring to a hard rolling boil.
- Continue boiling, stirring often, until the jam thickens and reaches the gel stage.
- Test for doneness by placing a small spoonful on a chilled plate. If it wrinkles when pushed with a finger, it is ready.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Skim off any foam if needed.
- Fill hot jars, leaving ¼ inch headspace.
- Wipe rims, apply lids and bands, and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
- Allow jars to cool undisturbed for 12–24 hours.
Tips for Success
- Begin checking for gel early since this recipe uses thick pulp and may set faster than expected.
- Stir frequently to prevent scorching.
- The vanilla adds a subtle depth of flavor without overpowering the passionfruit.
- A small amount of butter helps reduce foaming during cooking.
