How to Cut a Mango: An Easy Guide from Jessie’s Tropical Fruit Farm

Mangoes are one of the most delicious tropical fruits, but if you’ve never cut one before, you may not know exactly where to start.

In this video from Jessie’s Tropical Fruit Farm in Naples, Florida, we’re showing you how we cut a mango so you can get to all of that delicious, juicy fruit without making a mess.

Whether you’re enjoying a mango fresh, adding it to smoothies, making salsa, using it in desserts, or simply eating it right off the spoon, knowing how to properly cut one makes enjoying this tropical fruit much easier.

How to Cut a Mango

The first thing to know is that mangoes have a large, flat seed running through the center.

Instead of trying to cut straight through the middle, you’ll want to cut along either side of that seed.

Place the mango upright and carefully cut down one side of the seed. Then turn the mango around and repeat on the other side.

You’ll now have two large pieces of mango flesh and the center portion containing the seed.

From here, you can score the flesh into cubes while being careful not to cut through the skin. Then simply scoop the mango pieces away from the skin with a spoon.

You can also peel the mango first and slice the flesh directly from the seed.

There isn’t necessarily one “right” way to cut a mango. Find the method that feels easiest and safest for you.

What Can You Do With Fresh Mango?

Fresh mango is wonderful all by itself, but there are so many ways to enjoy it.

Try adding fresh mango to smoothies, fruit salads, salsa, yogurt bowls, oatmeal, desserts, popsicles, or homemade fruit snacks.

Mango also pairs beautifully with other tropical fruits such as passion fruit, dragon fruit, guava, pineapple and banana.

And if you’ve never experienced a truly ripe, tree-ripened mango, you’re in for a treat.

Different mango varieties can have dramatically different flavors, textures, colors, aromas and levels of sweetness. That’s one of the things we love about growing tropical fruit here at Jessie’s Tropical Fruit Farm.

Why We Love Teaching People About Tropical Fruit

One of our favorite things about having a tropical fruit farm is introducing people to fruits they may have never seen, tasted or prepared before.

There’s a whole world of tropical fruit beyond the typical grocery-store selection.

Depending on the season, we grow and offer unique tropical fruits here at the farm, and we love helping people learn what they are, how to tell when they’re ready to eat and what to do with them once they get home.

That’s why we’re creating these short educational videos.

If you’ve ever brought home an unfamiliar tropical fruit and thought, “Now what do I do with this?” we’re here to help.
